Minneapolis, MN – August 26, 2010 – Mariner Software, developers and publishers of professional and personal software, announced today the release of Narrator 2.1, the rebranded Mac OS X software that allows the user to read stories out loud using speech synthesis. Narrator is the newest product in Mariner’s award-winning line of creative and productivity software.

Now under the Mariner brand and containing a few minor feature additions, Narrator 2.1 is essentially the same software application originally developed by Dejal Systems. Mariner is working on updates which will include new significant functionality and features.

“We’ve made a number of acquisitions over the past few years.” said Michael Wray, President of Mariner Software. “The release of Narrator is rather exciting for us because it will allow us to move into the text-to-speech market and yet still fits in nicely with our other products.”

About Narrator

Using rich voices provided within the Mac OS X system, Narrator supplies controls that allow the user to choose a voice actor—adjusting the speed and pitch of the actor’s voice as well as inflection and volume—when reading the user added content. A dictionary preference allows substitution of words or phrases and to fine-tune pronunciation. In addition, the user has the ability to add more voice characters available from Cepstral, a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania based company that provides speech technologies and who has partnered with Mariner for this product.

• Exporting to iTunes, complete with track attributes including lyrics, allowing the listener to hear stories on an iPod or iPhone
• Listening to your own texts like audiobooks
• Supporting Multiple voice characters and multiple chapters in a single document
• Exporting AAC sound files
• Fine-tuning pronunciation and adding macros through the user defined dictionary
• Adding more speech synthesis voices

Pricing and Availability

Narrator 2.1 is now available for sale and trial as a download only from the Mariner Software website and will sell for $39.95USD. A boxed version of Narrator will be available in the near future. Narrator 2.1 is available in English, French and German. Current registered Narrator users can upgrade to the Mariner-branded version for free. Narrator requires Mac OS X 10.5 or higher.
